What is StockSpy?
StockSpy is an investor software system for news and company event analysis. It has several unique features which enhance your profit potential. Features including StockSpy NewsCharts and the ability to associate multiple news feeds (RSS) with a ticker symbol as well as desktop news alerts.
What makes StockSpy NewsCharts so exciting for investors?
NewsCharts provide an easy way to understand how a company stock news and events relate to price and volume of the stock. StockSpy automatically loads news feeds and creates a news bar chart in parallel with price and volume charts.
But that's not all you can do with NewsCharts. You can pinpoint specific dates or select a range of dates with your mouse directly on the stock chart and the news for your selection will be populated in the stock news event list on the right side of the application. From there directly access the source article/event by selecting it from the list.
What are RSS news feeds?
Why is RSS important to investors?
RSS is the name of the internet standard for distributing & syndicating news.
StockSpy has full RSS support built in. To get the benefits of using StockSpy you don't event need to know what RSS is since StockSpy automatically configures RSS news feeds for you the first time you chart a ticker symbol.
Even though StockSpy integrates some of the highest quality news feeds available it's a excellent idea to keep an eye out for feeds to add to StockSpy. Finding new RSS feeds related to your investments and adding them to StockSpy is a great way to give yourself an intelligence advantage.
Here are a few reasons why RSS is extremely important for investors:
- Investors can receive instant news alerts when news breaks about a specific company. You can get notifications from StockSpy as soon as new events are published.
- With StockSpy you automatically receive news from multiple sources for individual stocks without the hassle of repeatedly checking multiple websites manually. This ensures you get complete information to make more informed decisions. This helps you make rational and profitable investments instead of losing money on risky gambles.
- You can add feeds from Blogs, discussions, forums, RSS search engine queries and other non-mainstream media. This is extremely valuable since news can be discovered before the market has "priced it in" to the value of the stock.
- With StockSpy RSS is automatically integrated with our unique NewsChart technology compounding the benefits.
What are the recommended system requirements?
StockSpy runs on all versions of Windows. We recommend a minimum CPU speed of 1GHz, 128MB RAM and a highspeed internet connection.
How do I tell StockSpy which stocks should display news alerts?
You don't have to. StockSpy intelligently generates alerts for any symbol you have investigated in NewsCharts. It's that simple.
But, if you want to make modifications to this list you can easily do it through the Feed Manager. Look for it in the "Options" menu or in the bottom right corner.
What is the subscription fee for StockSpy?
Full access for StockSpy is available by subscription for only $4.99/month (when you think about it, that costs less than the trade commision of many discount brokers). This makes StockSpy one of the wisest and easiest investments you'll ever make.
Does StockSpy work with international stock exchanges?
Yes, StockSpy works with many different stock exchanges from around the world. As always, you can assign any RSS news feed to these symbols from non-US exchanges.
Here is a list of supported exchanges and symbol suffixes (You need to add the suffix to the end of the symbol. For example the British Airways symbol is BAY.L since it trades on the London stock exchange):

Does StockSpy provide an API for software developers?
Yes and no.
Since StockSpy supports RSS it is very easy to create an RSS feed and consume it using the software. (If you have created a great RSS feed we would love to hear about it. Please send us a note about it!).
However, at this time no API is provided to connect to StockSpy and access the internal data.
